10/2016 - Wonderful place to eat. The food is delicious. They know how to cook their meats. Steaks, Burgers and Pork chop were done perfectly. Love the atmosphere and the staff were attentive and pleasant. It can be a bit loud but that's because everyone is talking about how great the food and drinks are. Pacing was perfect, no rushing or long waits between courses. Sides are quite large so sharing is recommended. Same with desserts. Felt bad we was not able to finish team. This is a multilevel restaurant. You can dine on main or upper floor. Live music and bar scene upstairs and a secret speakeasy lounge located in the lower level. Figure out how to open the secret passage to gain entrance. We had after dinner drinks there. Try some of their signature cocktails, all we tried were great. About 5 minutes before you are ready to leave you tap a link in a text message the valet sends you and your car will be waiting at the door. Can't wait to go back.
This place is very hip - great decor and music, excellent food and service as well. The manager, Mark, spent some time talking to us and even gave us a free dessert. Fine dining and 5 star service/fare!

To be honest, the food there is great. I got the steak and mashed potatoes there and they were one of the best steaks and mashed potatoes I ever had. But the only thing about Rails is that the steak was like $35 and the mashed potatoes didn't come with it. I had to order them separately and that was like another $5. The steak was only like 8 oz, too.
I usually don't critique restaurants. You have a lovely place and I thought you would like to know.
Very cool place. Almost to nice for the location. Three floors of fun. Lots of fire places and an outdoor fire pit. Decent wine selection, decent beer selection. Staff is very friendly. Be sure to check out the speak easy on the bottom floor... If you can figure out how to get in lol!
The food was tasty and good, though mine was not served hot. My short ribs were prepared to perfection, too bad they were just "warm".
10/2017 - Haven't done a review in a year since every visit is 5 stars. This visit is Perfection again...from the reception area, to the waitstaff service, to the amazing food and cocktails and even down to the valet service. We love going to Rails, especially for some kind of celebration, the staff always acknowledges it. Top the evening off with an after diner cocktail in the secret speakeasy lounge in the lower level.
My husband and I drove down from Belvidere and another person in our party drove in from PA. My son-in-law chose Rails Speakeasy because it was highly recommended by his colleagues.
Our waitress was festive for Christmas Eve. She talked the talk, but could not walk the was walk. She came out reaching over the table once and said she was giving me a spoon since I ordered soup. (What's wrong with serving it with the soup I thought. I looked and it was not even a soup spoon, but a teaspoon. Maybe she didn't know the difference? I said nothing.) When the dinners were Butlered out, she was not present. My son-in-law had to direct all the food as to who ordered what. There were 7 in our party. We ate in the Speakeasy...which was lovely. We were the only large party. There were a few other couples, but many empty seats. When problems were brought to the attention of our waitress, she immediately questioned the service of her auxiliary waitress, who FYI was spot on in delivery of everything she was involved with.
